Getting the House Ready to Sell – Depersonalize & De-clutter the House

Take a look at any new home sales near you. It doesn’t matter what size the homes are, but what you will find is they are sparingly furnished where anyone could move right in.   They are mostly anonymous for “anyone” who would want to move in. There may be a frame or two in some of the rooms, but there are no personal family photos on the walls.

The home may have a “personality,” but not of any specific family or person.

The main reason you want to make your “house” anonymous is because you want buyers to view it as their own “home.” When prospective homebuyers see someone else’s family photos hanging on the wall, it’s harder for them to see it as their home.

Store family photos, sports trophies, collectible things, and knick-knacks. Rent a storage area for a while and put the box in the storage unit.

Do not just put the storage boxes away in the house. Preparing your house for sale is also about removing much of the “clutter,” and that is the next step in preparing your house for sale.
