Preparing the House to Sell – De-Cluttering

De-Cluttering is the most difficult thing for people to do because they are emotionally connected to things throughout the house. After many years of living in the same house, clutter collects in a way that is only comfortable by the current homeowner. But, it can ultimately affect the way a buyer sees the home.

Disorder can be evident on counter tops, shelves, in drawers, closets, attics, and especially garages and basements. It is important to have as much free space as possible to show a more expansive space, so removing, clearing and cleaning things around these spaces will allow potential buyers to see their own things in the home.

Look at it from a buyer’s perspective. Have your agent or a friend help identify areas of clutter and disarray around the house, as long as you can accept their suggestions without getting defensive.
